Software Utilities to Boost Your Windows Startup

Don’t you just love it when you get a brand new computer, it looks shiny, at looks sleek, and as soon as you open it, Windows loads in seconds. So after a few months when the quick load time goes from seconds, to minutes, to enough time for a cup of coffee, you become a little disappointed with that once gleaming machine. If you feel like this, you are not alone, and it is unfortunately a rather normal problem.

Fortunately there are some things you can do to speed up the windows startup, so you don’t have to wait quite as long for the machine to start up next time!

You can do a lot of this yourself, by typing in ‘msconfig’ in the windows run command. This takes you in to a box where you can see all processes currently running, as well as all the programs set to start with Windows. There are often quite a few programs that you can disable in this list, saving you valuable time when you perform a Windows startup!

MSConfig is the back end program which decides what programs are running on your computer, it shows you everything, even the hidden programs. This is one of the best places to give Windows startup a real speed boost.

To many people, however, the Windows MSConfig option is a little too advanced, and you can easily disable the wrong thing, causing some massive computer programs. Fortunately, there are some brilliant free tools out there which can help you speed up Windows startup.

Tools such as Chameleon Start Up Manager provide a simple to understand list of the startup processes which load with Windows. It allows you to select which of these programs you want to allow at Windows Startup, but also lets you choose if they should load when required, to avoid any system problems later on.

Chameleon Start Up Manager is good because it also gives you some other options, including the rather ingenious ‘Load While Idle’, which you can set on some applications, so rather than loading when Windows is starting, they will instead load when you have not used your computer for a few minutes.

Ultimate Start Up Manager is another great Windows start up tool. It is similar to Chameleon, but lacks some of its more advanced functions. Instead, Ultimate Start Up Manager gives you some great overall PC Utility, with some startup antivirus protection and adware detection. It also has Kid Protection, in case you have any work or files that you don’t want the kids to mess around with, and Turbo mode, which offers you a practically clean system to help you quickly load the things you need.

There are plenty of other great programs out there which can help speed up that slow PC, these can come in especially useful if you do not trust yourself to mess around with the back end of Windows (MSConfig). Free tools to speed up Windows start up generally do everything that MSConfig does, and a little bit more!
